The Supreme Court of South Africa has overturned the High Court ruling that granted the right to die to a terminally ill cancer patient. In a previous ruling, the Pretoria High Court had last year ruled in favor of a patient, to have the right to die with dignity, with the help of a doctor. The patient, 65 year old Robin Stransham Ford, however, succumbed to cancer before the court made its ruling. The High Courts’ decision which was appealed by the State, involved the Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services, Ministry of Health and the Health Professionals Council of South Africa as well as the Director of Public Prosecutions.“Our argument has always been that the right to life is enshrined in our constitution and equally, doctors took an oath to save and preserve life, not to end it,” explained Mthunzi Mhaga, spokesman for the Department of Justice and Correctional Services. The government however maintains that such a law would be exploited as it lacked a legal framework that would help regulate decisions in matters of life and death. The right to die is a moral principle based on the belief that a human being is entitled to end their own life or to undergo voluntary euthanasia.

Rebekah Vardy scores an impressive penalty in six-inch heels Travel Diary // Vietnam 2017 DILLIAN WHYTE has been forced into a tear-up with Alexander Povetkin after Andy Ruiz Jr snubbed a seven-figure deal to fight an old friend. With Deontay Wilder and the WBC still refusing to give the Brit banger the mandatory world title shot he earned way back in November 2017, the Brixton ace has been forced to make his own fights.Dillian Whyte has been forced into a tear-up with Alexander PovetkinCredit: Getty ImagesAndy Ruiz Jr has dodged the Body Snatcher in favour of facing Luis OrtizCredit: Alamy Live NewsAlexander Povetkin will likely travel to London to face the Brixton fighter in MayCredit: GettyThe Body Snatcher asked to face the former unified champ, who KO’ed Anthony Joshua last year before being outpointed in the December rematch, but Ruiz Jr has instead opted to face fading veteran and promotional stablemate Luis Ortiz. The Cuban southpaw and Mexican unit have more than the PBC banner and future fight in common.Last year Ortiz was offered around £6m to jump in and face AJ in June, after Jarrell Miller was busted for a scandalous concoction of steroids. The 40-year-old rejected the golden opportunity to instead face another stablemate in Wilder and, despite a strong start, he was demolished with a round-seven right hand. After beating Mariusz Wach on the Joshua vs Ruiz 2 undercard in Saudi Arabia, Londoner Whyte is eager to get back to winning ways on home soil. Now the planned April clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Derek Chisora is postponed, while the Ukraine sensation recovers from an elbow issue, Whyte could secure a home show in its place or in early May. Povetkin, 40, is a former WBA world champion and Olympic gold winner, with only defeats to Wladimir Klitschko and Joshua on his record. The 2013 Klitschko points loss came when both men were close to their prime. And the Russian troubled AJ in the opening round of their September 2018 battle, before he was convincingly stopped in the seventh.Povetkin did look on the wane on AJ’s successful Diriyah show, when American boogeyman Michael Hunter appeared to outpoint him, only for a Russian judge to back his compatriot and force a draw. And his promoter says claimed the pair will rematch if Povetkin does a shock job on Whyte.Andrey Ryabinskiy said: “We don’t really like talking about anything before signing the contract. At the moment, only Whyte is considered as an opponent for the next Povetkin fight.“This does not mean that the second fight with Michael Hunter is no longer interesting to us. Just, at the moment, the Whyte-Povetkin fight is very interesting to boxing fans.“After the fight with Whyte, we can return to considering the second fight with Hunter.“Povetkin in December drew a match with Hunter for the title of mandatory challenger for the WBA, after which both athletes announced their desire to hold a rematch.”The UK trip will be the fourth inside two years for Vladimir Putin’s personal friend after he savaged David Price in March 2018 and trudged through a dull decision over Hughie Fury last August. Photo by: Brian Friedman/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images(NEW ORLEANS) — Janet Jackson officially took “control” of Essence Fest 2018. The megastar took her State of The World Tour to New Orleans Sunday, giving fans an unforgettable night to cap an already fun-filled weekend full of performances, surprises, and classic tributes. On Friday, Snoop Dogg was easily the standout. Snoop, who emerged from the California gangster rap scene over two decades ago, began his set by paying homage to his West Coast roots. He offered crowd favorites like, “Murder Was the Case” and “Who Am I (What’s My Name),” before he turned his secular set into one focused on salvation. In promotion of his new gospel album, Snoop Dogg Presents Bible of Love, the California rapper — backed by a small chorus and live band — brought out gospel acts like Fred Hammond, John P. Kee, and the soulful Clark Sisters to accompany him and sing some of their gospel hits. The night ended on a socially conscious note with the team up of The Roots, Erykah Badu, and Jill Scott. They inspired the sold-out crowd by not only collaborating on signature songs like Badu’s “Bag Lady,” and “Love of My Life,” but by bringing out Anthony Hamilton and gospel hitmaker Kirk Franklin, who had the Superdome literally stomping with excitement.“Snoop took ’em to church,” Franklin announced. “I’m gonna take them to church in the ’90s.”On Saturday, the lineup focused on the ladies.First up was the R&B group Xscape, who took center stage with their on-again-off-again fourth member Kandi Burruss. After getting the audience to, “kick off their shoes and relax their feet” for about an hour, Academy Award winner Queen Latifah then took the reins, belting out some of her early career hits like “Ladies First,” and “U.N.I.T.Y.”Then, Queen introduced the crowd to some of her hip hop pioneering sisters, that included YoYo, MC Lyte, Missy Elliot, and Salt-N-Pepa. Together, they awed with classic records and dances. In addition to the legends, Latifah also brought out singer Brandy and Remy Ma for impromptu performances. On Sunday, fans were treated to a New Jack Swing courtesy of singer-songwriter Teddy Riley. Bringing out artists like Tank, Ginuwine, Guy, and Keith Sweat, Teddy’s set had the crowd singing right along.Later, American Idol alum Fantasia Barrino hit the stage, offering an emotional performance. Barrino shared the story of her younger brother, Xavier, who was badly injured in a motorcycle accident in 2017. Using her song “Lose to Win” to narrate her emotional journey, and offer the message that, “sometimes you’ve got to lose to win again,” Fantasia’s brother surprised the crowd by later wheeling himself on stage. After kneeling beside him, Fantasia became overwhelmed with tears and ended her set shortly thereafter.Janet, meanwhile, proved to the perfect ending to a phenomenal weekend. After taking fans on a musical tour of some of her hits, which included “The Pleasure Principle” and “I Get So Lonely,” Janet took on a serious tone.“It was really hard for me,” she said, referring to the recent death of her father, Joe Jackson. “I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how to move forward, if I should cancel this festival, cancel the tour.”According to Janet, her brothers helped to remind her what her father would have wanted.“My father would have said, ‘Just please finish what you started, and I will be there with you every step of the way in your heart,’” she said.Janet then dedicated her next song, “Together Again” to her father, saying, he would want us to, “celebrate his life.”Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio. Related ABCNews.com (SEOUL) — President Trump suggested he could “make a deal” with North Korea, but would not say whether he still believed direct talks with the regime were a waste of time.“I really believe that it makes sense for North Korea to come to the table and to make a deal that’s good for the people of North Korea and the people of the world,” the president said in a press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. It was a very different tone for the president, who has used aggressive rhetoric in the past when speaking about the isolated country.Trump added that he sees “certain movement” in response to his administration’s approach to pressuring North Korea to back away from its nuclear program.“We will together confront North Korea’s actions and prevent the North Korea dictator from threatening millions of lives,” Trump said. “He’s indeed threatening millions and millions of lives so needlessly.”The president called on the international community — including China and Russia — to come together in an effort to prevent further escalation, calling North Korea’s nuclear ambitions a global threat that requires worldwide action.Trump, who said he told his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that any negotiations with Kim Jong Un were a waste of time, declined to say whether he still believed that. Previously, he said all options, including diplomatic negotiations, remained on the table when dealing with North Korea. In August, however, the president warned that the rogue nation would be “met with fire and fury” if it threatened the security of the U.S. or its allies. While Trump did not rule out military action, he said he hoped the nuclear standoff with North Korea could be resolved through other channels.“As we work together to resolve this problem using all available tools short of military action, the United States stands prepared to defend itself and its allies using the full range of our unmatched military capabilities if need be,” Trump said.Copyright © 2017, ABC Radio.
