Marketing Your Products Through Wi-Fi Networks

first_imgRelated Posts corvida 1 Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Tags:#web When you don’t have the cash to hand over to Starbucks for Wi-Fi, there are hundreds of other coffee stores that will offer the same for free. For example, Panera Bread cafes include free Wi-Fi and are increasingly becoming my spot for free Wi-Fi access. Unfortunately, there are times when we won’t order a thing from places that provide free Wi-Fi or maybe we’ll grab the cheapest thing on the menu. There’s one coffe shop out there that’s looking to guilt trip Wi-Fi freeloaders into buying something on the menu using Wi-Fi networks.Marketing Via a Wi-Fi NetworkHolland-based CoffeeCompany is starting to market their menu items via their Wi-Fi networks. If you head to any of their coffee shops don’t be surprised to see networks with names such as ‘OrderAnotherCoffeeAlready’ or ‘TodaysSpecialExpresso1.60Euro’. With the help of THEY, CoffeeCompany is promoting their specials of the day and more, while humorously guilt tripping patrons accessing their Wi-Fi networks to grab another cup of coffee. Did anyone suggest this to Starbucks yet? Will it Increase Business? There haven’t been any reports of an increase in business, but we think the idea is great! Would it tempt us to buy another cup of joe? Once we could control our laughter at the creative network names we’d be more than happy to. Internet of Things (IoT): IoT to Shift to Distributed Architectures and Processing of Real-Time Data Streams

first_imgAdoption of Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to grow by 50 percent in 2016, according to Gartner.  43 percent of organizations will be using some amount of IoT technology by the end of this year.  Ultimately, two-thirds of organizations say that they plan to ultimately implement IoT.As IoT systems and platforms evolve, Gartner sees two features that will become more prevalent: distributed architectures and processing of real-time data streams.Nik Rouda, research analyst at ESG, said that “I think a lot of data can be understood locally. Edge analytics means you don’t need to bring everything to the data center and save it forever. Maybe we can interpret it, respond to it, record it, or summarize it, and then share it with other locations.”Gartner suggests that traditional data processing flows need to be re-architected. “With the highly distributed architectures required for most IoT solutions (many things, many places where data is generated, many platforms on which data is processed, and many consumption points to which data must be delivered), the historical approach to centralized collection of data is under pressure. Organizations must support a more distributed data architecture, because IoT solutions are inherently distributed.”The need for processing of real-time data streams will become increasingly possible with IoT tools.  Neha Narkhede, co-founder of Confluent, said that “when you look at IoT and the data coming from devices, it’s a natural stream, and it’s a new area that people understand has a continuous stream of data that devices are going to manage…  A lot of the data at rest will also move to data in motion as this technology matures.”last_img read more

Never Mind the Valley: Here’s Montreal

first_imgThere are numerous networking events held in the Montreal startup community, including StartupDrinks, a monthly freestyle gathering hosted in pubs and bars. Montreal boasts several programs to support entrepreneurship, including Flow Ventures, a tech startup accelerator that provides seed capital and hands-on operational support to early-stage ventures.According to investor and entrepreneur Mark MacLeod, a partner at Real Ventures and a blogger at StartupCFO, “Montreal is poised to become a dominant player in the market for startup capital in Canada. Real Ventures is getting set to announce a new fund. Larger players like Rho and others will all be announcing new funds soon as well. And of all the provinces, Quebec is most committed to funding technology with a $ 700M fund of funds being created less than a year ago.”MacLeod and others point to the “world-friendly angle” of Montreal, its multicultural and multilingual make up, arguing this makes the city a good link between the European and North American tech industries.Photo credits: Flickr user Richard Taylor Related Posts And it’s that blend of industry, education, creativity and finance that might be the key to making Montreal a good site for startups. As Aidan Nulman, co-founder of YouPhonics argues, “Montreal’s been a great community to incubate my company in. What’s not to like about universities feeding fantastic talent into a bilingual global arts hub that gets major support from its provincial and federal government?”RWW’s Never Mind the Valley series:AustinBangaloreBeijingBostonBoulderIsraelLondonLos AngelesNew YorkPortland audrey watters A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Tags:#Never Mind the Valley#start center_img Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market The largest primarily French-speaking city outside of Paris, Montreal is the second largest city in Canada and the largest in the province of Quebec. Despite some claims to the contrary, Montreal still maintains it is the cultural capital of Canada, and the city is often rated as one of the world’s most livable. Montreal is an important center for Canadian finance, telecommunications, aerospace, and software industries. Some reports state that as many as a third of the region’s workers are part of the “creative class” – scientists, technology workers, entertainers, artists and designers. Namely, six vessels for the mixed transport of freight and passengers were brought into service in 2018.“Our growth is based on the hard work of our employees all over the world, both ashore and onboard,” Emanuele Grimaldi said. “We have chosen to be deeply rooted in all the European countries where we operate.”The company has been very active on the newbuilding front and already has 19 vessels under construction for the transport of rolling freight. These include 12 greenships, equipped with lithium batteries, which will join the fleet in the next years. In addition, 7 Pure Car & Truck Carrier vessels will be delivered by 2020 for the transoceanic services of the group.Grimaldi revealed that the target for next year is 2 million more people carried, when compared to figures from 2017 when the company’s vessels, served by the Grimaldi Lines, Minoan Lines and Finnlines brands, carried 5 million people. The growth is ascribed to the enlargement of the ro-pax fleet with 6 already operating new vessels: the Cruise Ausonia and Cruise Bonaria, deployed on Sardinia routes, the Corfù and Florencia, deployed on Italy-Greek routes, the Mykonos Palace, deployed between Piraeus and Chania, and the high speed ferry Santorini Palace, which operates the Crete-Cyclades service. Moreover, the group has confirmed the lengthening program of the cruise ferries Cruise Roma and Cruise Barcelona, which will be completed by the first semester of 2019, while the order of new ferries belonging to the Superstar class for Finnlines is under consideration. Finally, Grimaldi said that during 2018  Minoan Lines managed to completely write off its debt that amounted to EUR 500 million ten years ago, when the Grimaldi Group acquired a majority stake. Finally, in order to meet the IMO’s sulphur cap in 2020, Grimaldi plans to retrofit its entire fleet with scrubbers.last_img read more
